Customer Name:
K. Scoggins
Specialist:
Grant Crowden
Problem:
The customer called wanting assistance in determining if a wall she tried to remove was a load-bearing wall and removing said wall to open up her living space.
Upon arrival, our specialist performed a full foundation inspection and determined that the wall she wanted to remove was load-bearing.
A load-bearing wall is a structural element that helps to transfer weight from the roof down to the foundation and soil. Removing a load-bearing wall without installing a sufficient alternative, such as a column or post, would ultimately be detrimental to the home’s structural integrity.
Due to this, our specialist recommended the installation of an LVL beam, also known as a support beam, to replace the existing wall. This would allow the home's structural integrity to remain intact and achieve the goals the customer wanted.
Solution:
Our crew arrived and started the process by removing all the sheetrock from the walls.
Next, the crew placed a temporary support system to remove the remainder of the wall.
Once the wall was removed the crew began installing the LVL beam and support column.
By the end of the process, the customer was delighted with the final product.
